Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Ezlimar started her ballet studies in the Classical Ballet School in Venezuela, where she graduated in 1996. She became an apprentice with the Classical Ballet of Camara at the age of 13. In 1996, she participated in the International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria. After this competition, Ezlimar obtained a scholarship in order to continue her ballet studies at the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, D.C. She received a full scholarship from the UNESCO to study ballet at the Ecole Superieure de Danse Rosella Hightower in Cannes, France. She has worked as a soloist in Ballet Clasico de Camara, Ballet Teresa Carreño, Ballet Contemporaneo de Caracas, as a guest artist in Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico to perform Mercedes in Don Quixote, Olympic Ballet Theatre to perform the Sugar Plum fairy in the Nutcracker, and Tulsa Ballet. Ezlimar has also taught in different ballet schools in the United States such as Nunnbetter Dance Theatre in New Jersey, Northern Cincinnati Youth Ballet, Los Olivos Dance Gallery in Santa Barbara, CA, Ventura Ballet Company in California, and taught the 2011 and the 2012 Summer program at the San Pedro City Ballet in San Pedro, CA.
The son of professional dancers, Romel Frometa grew up in Havana, Cuba, and trained at the Cuban National Ballet School. At just 21, he was made a principal dancer with Ballet Nacional de Cuba under the direction of Alicia Alonso and performed as a guest artist around the world before joining Cincinnati Ballet in 2012. He’s won numerous awards for his dancing, including a gold medal at the 1999 Vignale-Dance Competition for Young Talents held in Italy, a gold medal at the 1999 Grand Prix in Havana, Cuba, and a bronze medal at the International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria. He’s worked with internationally celebrated choreographers Alberto Mendez, Trey McIntyre and Edwaard Liang, among others. Mr. Frometa has enjoyed performing the role of Basilio in Don Quixote, Othello in Othello and Albrecht in Giselle. He’s joining BalletMet as a company dancer for the 2016-17 season.
